Northland International University
announces a new scholarship in the name of Frances Jane Swartz. The official
scholarship will be titled Frances Jane Swartz “A Woman of Influence.” The
scholarship will be made available to young women who are pursuing a mission
and ministry to be an influence for the cause of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
around the world.
“Fran,” as she was affectionately
named by family and friends, was a true ambassador for the Gospel of Jesus
Christ. The influence of her life in her city, in her church, and with her
family and friends was unique and unparalleled in a number of ways. After she
came to personal salvation in 1959, her immediate mission was her family. Her
young nephews and their parents were given the Gospel, and soon, a sister and
brother-in-law came to Christ. The brother-in-law, an athlete of the decade in
the city, surrendered to ministry, as did both of his sons. Because of Fran’s
witness, through this generation alone, thousands have heard the Gospel.
Fran’s children came to Jesus
Christ, and her daughter and son-in-law served in ministry for several years.
As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she faithfully presented the Gospel
to everyone in her heritage. One by one, they professed Jesus Christ as Savior.
Fran’s pastor of over twenty-five
years spoke of her influence as one of his dearest friends in the church. The
pastor tells of her being a loyal and dedicated church member and one of the
most persuasive and most influential people in the local church. Fran’s
influence has been felt from her early days of waitressing as a youth to being
a school bus driver to her business days of running a profitable coin shop. Throughout
her life, she was always giving the greatest news of all—the Gospel. Fran
helped needy people by bringing them into her home for the mission of helping
them and telling them about Jesus. Fran would go from home to home in her
community, caring for the elderly, and she would repeatedly share stories of
the people in those homes accepting Jesus Christ.
As Fran was a complete servant who
modeled her Savior in so many ways as well as a voice of one presenting Jesus
Christ to so many in her city through so many venues of her life, Northland
International University is privileged to announce this scholarship in her name.
As Northland International University prepares students for Great Commission
living and for giving the Gospel to others around the globe, their desire is
that these students model Frances Jane Swartz as she modeled Jesus Christ. As graduating
students follow in her steps, her legacy of giving the Gospel will be felt
around the globe until Jesus Christ returns.
