Communication Arts Students Start First Week of Classes

Time never plods in the academic world—unless you’re the student anticipating lunch next hour. When the school year starts, it doesn’t wait around for the daisies to bloom, and here in Communication Arts, we’re even sprinkling on a little fertilizer.

On the second night of classes, auditions were held for the annual fall play. Nearly forty students showed up to read for Two Gentlemen of Verona, directed by Mr. Brock Miller. Less than a week after those auditions, there will be a second set held for senior Jessica MacQuarrie’s recital project, "The Curious Savage." The Fundamentals of Speech students have already been assigned their first speech, and Solo Performance students can be seen coming and going with scripts in their hands, memorizing texts between classes.

If we’re this busy in only the first week, one can only imagine what it will be like a month into the semester. But it’s encouraging to see an already continual effort to “keep the main thing the main thing.” Students meeting for an early morning Bible study on the outdoor patio of The Daily Grind, prayer requests for a greater focus on others, and a willingness to pause and say hello to a new person already characterize the semester. And for the Christian, isn’t that the best use of the art of communication?
