Performance Groups

Concert Choir

This choral group is open to students in any undergraduate degree program who can make a musical contribution.  The Concert Choir typically ministers during our Student Heart Conference and Christmas Concert in the fall semester, as well as our Heart Conference, Missions Conference, and Spring Concert the following semester. The choir rehearses every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30—4:20 p.m. Admission into the choir is based on an interview, which is held prior to the first rehearsal of each semester. Membership requires a two-semester commitment. Concurrent membership is also required for any student serving on the Northern Lights.

Concert Orchestra

The Concert Orchestra provides an opportunity for students with instrumental talent to develop their abilities while serving the Lord. Mr. Chris Metras, the conductor, interviews and auditions students at the beginning of each school year to determine which students would be able to make a musical contribution to the orchestra. In addition, they play for the Christmas and Spring Concerts, both in stand-alone works and in combination with vocal ensembles. The orchestra rehearses from 4:30—5:20 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. The concert orchestra is designed to enhance and develop the instrumental skills of each student to serve the Body of Christ within the church.  Students are given tools to help them lead and conduct instrumental ensembles in the church setting.

Northern Lights

The Northern Lights have been an integral part of the choral singing at Northland since the school’s early years in the 1970s. The current group is made up of undergraduate and graduate students preparing for full-time ministry. About half of the ensemble members are Music majors. The Northern Lights sing in worship services, schools, and various on-campus functions and programs. The Lights have rehearsal from 3:30—5:00 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Mr. Chris Metras directs the group and opens auditions at the end of each spring semester and beginning of each fall semester. Membership in the Northern Lights requires a two-semester commitment. You may contact Betsey Cox or the Fine Arts Office at 715.324.6999 (ext. 2700) to request this group.
