The fall semester of 2011
is only days away—three, at the moment of this writing—and the Communication
Arts Department is excited to welcome the students back. In the last few days,
campus has exploded with energy as students began to arrive and unpack, and
something similar has happened in our department. We have a number of students
returning this year, but we have nearly doubled in size because of the new
students who will be joining us!
We also have a new member
joining our team on the faculty side. Lydia Stewart moved here this summer from
Indiana, and we're thankful for the contribution she has already made to the
department. With a background in creative writing (BA) as well as dramatic
productions (MA), she brings a wealth of creativity and knowledge along with a
passion to invest her life in the students.
The Communication Arts
Department offers a versatile range within the new degree so that we can serve
this growing group. If a student is interested in the wide field of speech, we
can help that student specifically pursue what he or she does best by offering
one of five possible emphases: Cross Cultural Communications, Performance
Studies and Theatre, Speech Education, Organizational Communications, and
Applied Media. The result is a variety of classes such as Small Group
Communication, Stage Craft, Voice and Diction, Performing Literature, and
Persuasion.
Keeping in mind that we’ll
be meeting students with all kinds of talents that they want to expand, we look
forward to this school year with great anticipation. We can’t wait to see what
God will do.
