The History Department held its first departmental cookout at Professor McLain’s home. One of our emphases this year is departmental mentoring in and out of the classroom—between faculty and students as well as among peers. Starting with food, which always draws a crowd, the attendees enjoyed catching up on summer activities and meeting new faces.
The faculty took some time to challenge students with GO Study Abroad opportunities, the classical Greece and Rome study tour, recent developments in the library archives, and our desire to see each student reach their potential in the program. Of course, the evening was concluded with more food—s’mores and cookies—and a game of Settlers of Catan for the late nighters.
The History department is excited about the students God has brought to Northland and their desire to use history as a tool for ministry. Our next event is coming up quickly: a Civil War reenactment on Saturday, September 26, near Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
