International Students at Northland

Northland International University has long had an international focus. The scope of the Great Commission has propelled missionaries from this school around the world. The concept of reaching every corner of the earth has at its heart the goal of making disciples who can multiply by continuing to make more disciples right where they are. Because of this, we are thrilled when students from around the world come to us, giving us the privilege of providing the education needed so they can do this very thing—go back home and make disciples. Katie Zhuang recently shared with us how God has worked in her life to bring her to this point.

China

My family is not Christian. I was going to college in a city in southern China as an English Education major when an American lady came to our college as a teacher. Her love for the Lord and love for us really amazed me, so I asked about how she came to China and also about her testimony of how she came to the Lord. Then I asked her if I could have a Bible study with her; the answer, of course, was YES. After half a year she led me to the Lord. During that time she and my other American teacher, Abigail, were so patiently and faithfully answering all of my questions and discipling me in many biblical ways.

It was at this time that I met Jenny Keith, a teacher who showed by her life how much she loved Jesus and the Chinese people. She said that she was moving to Northland to get more training, so I began to ask about going there. Then I met some people from Northland who visited China as English teachers. These people gave me such an example of Word-filled, Spirit-filled lives. I loved the discipleship I received whenever I was around them. They would often have meetings and devotional times of sharing with each other what God was doing in their hearts and praying for each other.

I’m not completely sure what I will do when I graduate, but I have a burden to share the Gospel with the minorities in China or anywhere in an Asian country. I would also love to teach English—maybe to minority groups in one of those countries.
