Northland International University’s mission, regardless of academic
department or major, is to train the next generation of servant leaders
for Great Commission living. While its foundation of biblical
principles that direct this mission remains unchanged, Northland seeks
to educate each student using the most current resources available. The
music program is no exception.
With the
construction of Northland’s own music technology lab, every music major
now has the opportunity to utilize some of the latest advancements in
the growing field. Whether composing, arranging, recording, editing, or
producing, students will find, in each lab station, tools with which to
sharpen and channel his musical skills. As technology continues to
expand, Northland desires to equip students with the ability to serve
and impact the current culture for Christ through these advancements.
Therefore, each music major will now take Introduction to Music
Technology, a class designed to provide a broad yet functional exposure
to music production, reproduction, notation, and education. Through
the use of lab equipment with software such as Sibelius 5, Audacity,
Cakewalk’s newest product, Music Creator 5, as well as the internet’s
prolific computer-aided instructional sites for music education,
students will be challenged not only to use these technological aids in
their music but also to understand the significance of such skills as
related to Great Commission living.
