During this year’s awards ceremony held today at Northland
International University, many special awards were presented to well-deserving
students.
- Each year, the Alumni Department honors a
specific alumnus who is serving the Lord today. This year’s award went to
Donnie and Rebecca Varney.
- Graduating senior Kelly Matthew was the
recipient of the Dottie Jacquot Christian Music Award. This award is given to a
graduating music major that has shown excellent academic standing and a heart
for the Lord.
- This year’s Homiletics contest winners were
junior Greg Cline, sophomore Nate Fink, and junior Brad Snyder.
- For the awards given by the Extension Ministries
Department, seniors Shannon Murdock and Audrius Bieska were respectively the
ladies’ and men’s recipients.
- Society winners of this year were the Amy
Carmichael Society for the ladies and the Darrell Champlin Society for the men.
- Last but certainly not least, Northland Heart
Awards were given. Northland Heart Awards are presented each year to two
graduating ladies and two graduating men who have exemplified the heartbeat of
Northland during their college experience. This year’s recipients were Jenna
Kurtz and Bethany Riggs for the ladies and Jeff South and Peter Cushman for the
men.
To conclude the awards ceremony, Dr. Ollila, chancellor of
Northland International University, challenged the student body with the
reminder that one day we will all receive our just rewards from the Lord at the
Bema Seat. He encouraged everyone to keep running the Christian race faithfully
so that one day we all might say as Paul did, “I have fought the good fight, I
have finished the course, I have kept the faith.”
