Freedom Celebration is always a highlight of the summer here at Northland. On July 2, family campers, Northland staff, and over 3,000 people from the community, enjoyed a beautiful evening. The lakefront was the center of activity with carnival games, music, and—of course—fireworks. Singer and songwriter, Jimbo Whaley, and bluegrass group, Greenbrier, treated the crowd to a mix of bluegrass and gospel songs, and the Pettit Team added several bluegrass selections of their own, providing entertainment for the whole family. The focus and purpose of the entire evening centered on the message from US Army chaplain, Captain Mike Smith. Capt. Smith is a member of the 7th Special Forces Group serving under the United States Army Special Operations, and his message included a very clear Gospel presentation. Afterwards, the crowd was treated to a spectacular fireworks demonstration by Spectrum Pyrotechnics.
Make plans to join us for next year’s Freedom Celebration on July 1, 2011. But for now, please enjoy the pictures of this year’s event by visiting Northland Camp’s website.
