As the students were dismissed for Spring Break, Vocal Pedagogy intern, Alyssa Holdeman, and Vocal Pedagogy instructor, Miss Shellie Beeman, headed down to judge at a fine arts competition in the Chicago area. Alyssa and Miss Beeman spent a full weekend adjudicating, observing, teaching, and getting one-on-one time with a private voice instructor.
During this two-day trip, Alyssa was able to judge several vocal competitions as well as observe the choral competitions. Added to this whirlwind trip was the opportunity to talk with high school students, to teach a few lessons to students in the voice finals, and to sing for professional singers and teachers who came to adjudicate.
“As her voice teacher, I can truly say that God provided a wonderful opportunity to get to know Alyssa personally—beyond the private studio. How wonderful it was, as well, to see her eyes brighten with each unfolding opportunity!” said Miss Beeman. The faculty at Northland love to provide hands-on experiences and practical applications for the knowledge their students gain in the classroom. These experiences also provide fantastic opportunities to disciple and display the love of Christ to the students.
