For many Northland students,
Spring Break provides a time of much needed rest and relaxation at home; however,
that is not the case for all students. This Spring Break three traveling teams
will go out, representing Northland International University.
The Northern Lights, Northland’s vocal ensemble, will travel to churches in Indiana,
Ohio, and Michigan. They will minister in several churches and schools in these
states. This year’s team theme is
“Look to Jesus,” and some of the songs they
will sing are as follows: “God of
Heaven,” “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing,” “Come Christians Join to Sing,” “I
Will Rise,” “Glorious Indescribable,” “Come to Calvary’s Holy Mountain,” and
“Forever and a Day.” The team desires to point others to Christ through encouragement and discipleship. Team
leader, Nathan Jones, commented on their theme: “This is really what Northland is about as a whole, which is what we’ll
try to show to the churches we visit. We hope during this tour to not only
represent a university, though we do, but to represent Jesus Christ and His
glorious grace.”
The Proclaimers,
Northland’s drama team, will also travel and minister to churches and schools in
Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. The Proclaimers strive to edify the local
church and other Christian ministries through the presentation of drama. This
year the drama team will present “Faith Without Trappings”—a forty-minute drama
telling the life story of Darlene Diebler Rose, missionary to New Guinea, and
depicting God’s testing of her faith during her time in a Japanese prison camp.
The team will also present three shorter, eight-minute dramas: “A Great Gulf
Fixed” with a salvation and witnessing theme; “The Room,” which is the story of
the Christian life and how it has been covered by the blood of Jesus; and
“Alive Together With Christ,” where Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene
compare their relationships to Jesus and their shared need of His salvation.
Two students will also provide vocal and instrumental solos, and a two of the
male students will preach as well.
Representing Northland overseas is the study tour group led by Dr. Jim Bennett.
This year’s group is focusing on Classical Europe and will visit the countries
of Italy and Greece. The students will visit many significant cities of the New
Testament and the birthplace of the ideas that shaped the modern world. Students
will explore many sought-after places from the Acropolis and the ancient city
of Corinth in Greece to the vast ruins of the Colosseum and the catacombs in
Rome. A highlight of this year’s trip for the students will be the opportunity
to go inside the Vatican. This trip may count as a three-credit history
elective for some, and the desire for students who take this trip is that they
will return with a deep understanding of both the New Testament and the pillars
of the Western world.
This year’s Spring Break will be an exciting time for students both at home and
abroad. Please keep these groups in prayer for traveling safety and effective
opportunities for ministry . . . and enjoy your Spring Break with the
opportunities that it provides for you!
