Northland International University’s
spring drama, “Thy Morn Shall Rise,” depicts the life of a young Bostonian
widow, Jenny McDaniels, and the life events that impact her view of God. This
new drama will have its premier performance on Northland’s stage. The play
features a blending of modern and ancient. While based loosely on the biblical
account of Ruth, it is set in present-day Boston and features an original
staging concept that pulls Boston landmarks into the set design. Also, the play
will be accompanied by live music written specially for this production.
In “Thy Morn Shall Rise,” the main
character experiences a series of events in which she faces a great
struggle—the struggle to see the sovereignty of God in her life. Jenny
recognizes that, in the midst of circumstances that appear hopeless and
confusing and in the face of conflicting, worldly philosophies, God’s control
over life, society, and creation prevails. While dealing with her struggles,
Jenny is confronted with the need to trust God’s plan for her life and to see
God’s sovereign rule over all.
As with other Northland Fine Arts
productions, “Thy Morn Shall Rise” is about an opportunity. For play directors,
cast, and audience alike, this play is about life change and the impact of a
life centered in abandonment to God. Ultimately, it is a compelling venue that
challenges us to step away from the common, fruitless pursuits of life. By
doing so, we may find the fulfillment which flows from the extraordinary
journey of faith God has called us to follow. It is about a life of God-dependence,
resting solely on the sovereignty of our God.
This play will be presented from April
8–10, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. in the White Chapel. To reserve tickets or for more
