In the flurry of the semester’s final activities, two of
Northland’s Fine Arts teams are preparing for two weeks of traveling to
churches and schools in the Midwest, taking the message of the Gospel on the road.
With a focused emphasis on the character of Christ, the Northern Lights’
musical program features songs that encourage listeners with the greatness of
the risen Savior. The program’s concluding song, “Look unto Jesus,” declares
the profound message of Hebrews that functions as the program’s theme: “Looking
unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set
before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the
right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2). Through church presentations,
school visits, and even a work day at Camp Chetek, the desire of each team
member is to encourage the people the team encounters, regardless of age or
vocation, with the reminder that by looking unto Christ, we have grace to
endure the difficulties of life, to rise above the things of earth that could
weigh us down.
The Proclaimers drama team wishes to accomplish a goal similar to that of the
Northern Lights, only through the venue of drama instead of music. The six members
of the Proclaimers team will present their message through a variety of
scripts. Their longer script, Faith
without Trappings, depicts the story of Darlene Deibler Rose, a woman whose
story of perseverance through the trials she experienced while interred in a
WWII Japanese prison camp has challenged countless believers with the message
of the sufficiency of Christ. With a desire to see drama transform lives, the
Proclaimers team focuses primarily on sharing Christ in their presentations and
on establishing relationships with the people they meet off the stage.
The teams set out on the road soon after Commencement. For them, the excitement
of summer activity begins with the surpassing thrill of communicating the
redeeming message of the risen Christ.
