Preparing the Heart Project Update

Published On: Wednesday, July 01, 2009

image_51Things are moving and shaking in the heart of Northland's campus. Hammers, drills, saws, and other unidentifiable-by-the-average-Joe equipment are busily employed by the dedicated workers who have labored hard the past few weeks to complete the first initiative in the Preparing the Heart  renovation project. Northland's facilities crews have been fervently laboring and their hard work is paying off. The brand-new Daily Grind opened up just in time for the first week of Family Camp, and campers and guests have been able to enjoy twelve newly-renovated rooms. The response has been enthusiastic—the comfort level has increased dramatically from the old camp dorm rooms, first built in the early 1960s, and the new Daily Grind already promises to be a favorite place to fellowship . . . or at least a place to obtain some strong coffee to get campers and students awake and ready to get going each day.

image_50The Preparing the Heart project has been organized into several fundraising initiatives in an effort to renovate all of the original white buildings in the heart of campus as we approach our fiftieth anniversary. The first initiative of raising $250,000 has been completed, allowing us to renovate the interiors of the two dormitories. Another $250,000 is needed to complete the second initiative—updating the exteriors of each dorm with new stone, siding, windows, and landscaping. If you are interested in donating funds or labor for these projects, please contact our director of development, Mark Widmer (mark.widmer@ni.edu or715.324.6900, ext. 3350).
