In a pluralistic, postmodern society, the role of the Bible College has taken on an increased level of relevancy and importance. The landscape of the twenty-first century presents new challenges for students; these challenges must be considered with wisdom and discernment. If Northland is to continue to fulfill its mission in the twenty-first century, it is imperative that creative, new strategies be employed to meet students where they are and empower them to mobilize their passions and gifts for the furtherance of the Gospel around the world. The mission for the disciple of Jesus has never changed; however, the methodology of accomplishing that mission will adapt to changing opportunities for effectively advancing the Gospel.
Northland’s new academic service, known as Discover. Develop. Deploy., is in place to ensure that each student is discovering his or her passions, developing his or her gifts, and deploying into the extraordinary life that God has mapped out for him or her. Each stage fulfills an integral role in this process. Continue reading about this innovative academic model.
The individualized college education model is based on the tailoring of each student’s academic plan toward a specific vocational outcome, incorporating the unique coursework and experiences necessary to successful outcome completion. The Discover. Develop. Deploy. structure enables the creation and implementation of each individualized college academic plan (ICAP). The ICAP synthesizes seven specific coursework and experience categories as listed below:
Northland Bible Core. At the heart of the academic programs at Northland is the Bible core, a strategic and intentional curriculum designed to help students discern, assimilate, and communicate truth. Regardless of the vocational outcome chosen, each student is ensured a deliberate scriptural foundation that emphasizes the formulation of a proper view of God.
Liberal Arts Core. The liberal arts core is a collection of foundational courses crafted for the holistic preparation of students in developing people skills, critical thinking skills, and communication skills.
Program. The program incorporates school-specific coursework for each student’s chosen outcome.
Specialization. A specialization includes classes that are individualized to each student based on his or her desired vocational outcome.
Northland Center for the Local Church. This center emphasizes experiences designed to cultivate within our students an understanding of the centrality of the local church for a believer.
Northland Center for Global Opportunities. This center emphasizes experiences throughout the four years at Northland designed to engage each student with the call of the Great Commission.
be one. make many. This discipleship model refers to campus life experiences as a part of our intentional discipleship atmosphere.
In essence, the ICAP provides a unified reference for the four-year university experience, incorporating the academic courses and experiences necessary to ensure successful preparation for a specific outcome.
Northland International University is a Bible College with a clear vision: “Transforming the world with the Gospel of Christ by making disciples of every tribe, every tongue, every people, and every nation.” Our entire student experience, including academics, is bolted to discipleship: “be one. make many.” It’s who we are. It’s what we do. It’s how we go about transforming the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
