Coach
Peter Wehry
In 1985, Pete Wehry graduated from
Bob Jones University with a BA in Youth Ministries and a minor in Coaching. He
then went back to his home ministry, Farmington Avenue Baptist Church and
Hartford Christian Academy, where he served as youth pastor and athletic
director for eleven years. During that time, he acted as Hartford
Christian’s head soccer and basketball coach. In 1996, he moved to Ocala,
Florida, where he served as an assistant pastor at Berean Baptist Church and
taught at Ocala–Vanguard High School. At Vanguard, he was the assistant varsity
boys’ basketball coach and helped run the prestigious Kingdom of the Sun
Christmas Basketball Tournament. In the spring of 1999, he joined the staff of
First Baptist Church in Mishawaka, Indiana, where he served as associate
pastor, youth pastor, and athletic director.
During his tenure at First Baptist, Coach Wehry directed an exciting basketball
outreach ministry called "POSTUP " (Proclaiming Our Savior to Unreached People),
which became an integral part of evangelism and discipleship at First Baptist.
While in Mishawaka, he began his master of ministry degree at Northland Baptist
Bible College, which he completed in 2006. In the summer of 2004, he joined the
staff at Northland as the dean of students and as the assistant basketball
coach under Dennis Scott. In June 2007, he was appointed Athletic Director and the head basketball coach. Coach Wehry is a member of the National
Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and in 2008 completed the NABC’s Professional
Development Series.
"I am extremely honored to be part of the Northland family. It is a tremendous
privilege to be the head basketball coach at Northland. I wholeheartedly
support Northland’s philosophy of 'training the next generation of servant-leaders,' and that is my goal as I work with this group of young men. We will
strive to play with a passion that stems from having a passion for God and for
ministry."
Coach Wehry and his wife, Lisa, have two
boys: PJ, twenty-two years old and recently married to Becky Sue, and Drew, fourteen years old.
