Each spring at our annual Missions Conference, it is humbling to see how many of our current students are burdened for missions. On any given year, approximately one-fourth of our student body (150–175students) indicate that they sense God's leading to full-time missions. Many of our faculty and staff have either full-time or short-term mission field experience. At Northland, the burden for worldwide evangelism is not only promoted by our Cross-Cultural Studies Department—it is campus-wide. This burden certainly includes the Athletic Department.
Scheduling athletic team missions trips is part of our athletic philosophy. These trips are an amazing tool for discipleship in the lives of our own student-athletes. Sports missions trips also help us to keep our focus on the ministry of athletics. Each missions trip has given us the opportunity to share the Gospel with hundreds of unsaved people.We have seen many salvation decisions and have made new contacts for the missionaries to follow up. Most of the new contacts were a direct result of having our sports teams in their country. We are always praying about and planning for future sports missions trip opportunities.
