The Northland Pioneers came out hot Friday night as they
extinguished the third-ranked team in the NCCAA, 86–76.NI had previously lost to North Central on
the road on February 4 in overtime.
Senior night got a late start, but that didn’t keep the
soon-to-be graduates from stepping up their game on a special night.Seniors Brad Snyder (Romeoville, IL) and
Justin Sheley (Rockford, IL) both had outstanding games in front of a packed-out student body.Snyder chalked up a
double-double as he scored 11 points and snatched 14 rebounds.Sheley, who did not play in the previous game
at NCU, proved to be helpful as he contributed 17 points and 7 rebounds.
The scoring and teamwork didn’t stop there though.NI was led by a dynamic duo scoring attack
from Josh Conover (Reading, PA)
who scored 25 points and Seth Quirey (Elkhart,
IN) with 18. Conover and Quirey traded baskets back and
forth to help capture to victory for the Pioneers.
For as many points that were shared in this game for NI, there
was a reason.Daniel Doran (Allen Park, MI),
another graduating senior, led Northland in assists with 9.If it wasn’t for the strong ball movement of
the Pioneers, there wouldn’t have been as many points.Northland displayed an outstanding spectacle
of teamwork, and it proved to pave the way to the win.
NI will have to make the quick turn around as they will
tip off against Faith
Baptist Bible
College at 4 p.m. CST on
Saturday. The Eagles of FBBC will come
into the game boasting an eleven-game winning streak.
