Cold shooting was again an unexpected factor for this high-powered, offensive lineup of the Pioneers. Some credit must be given to the
defense of the Lakers from Great Lakes, but no
matter how tough the defense, shooting 3–25 from three-point range is pretty
abnormal. With their struggles from the outside, Northland used their
athleticism to get to the basket and help secure some easy baskets. The teams
were knotted at 29 at the half.
Along with Mee, sophomore Jon Conover put forward a strong
double-double performance, scoring a team high 21 points and collecting 11
rebounds. The Pioneers were also able to have an edge on the boards,
outrebounding the Lakers 50–39 en route the 70–63 win. The Pioneers now move
on to play Kuyper College at 4:00 p.m. today for their second game of the Tip-Off Tournament.
