Seth Quirey
nailed a three from the left wing on the first play of the Northland men's game
against Davis College Tuesday night, and the Pioneers held on to that lead for
the remainder of the game. Northland balanced its scoring in the 98-87 win in
Binghamton, New York with four players scoring 16 or more points.
The
offense ran smoothly and consistently all game long even as the Pioneers dealt
with a few defensive struggles. The lead, at one point stretched to 14, was cut
to two when foul trouble forced Coach Wehry to sit starters Zach Mercado and
Josh Conover, who scored 23 points on the night. However, Northland stayed tough and
extended the lead back out to 8 at the end of the half.
Freshman
big man Kyler Gardner turned his second straight prolific scoring night,
banging his way to 27 points. Gardner has scored 55 points in the last two
games. Senior Seth Quirey had 24 points and Zach Mercado had 16 and posed a
match-up problem for Davis all game long.
