Department of History

Northland’s History degrees offer a rich and varied program. From Middle Eastern History and Islam to World Geography, the courses in the history program provide a well-rounded picture of the philosophies, religions, and events that have shaped our world. Studying history truly equips students for life and will also provide students a solid foundational degree for future graduate work.

The History Education program at Northland offers excellent preparation for teaching history on the secondary level in both traditional and innovative classroom settings. Course work includes traditional subject content as well as carefully designed field experiences. History has objective value, and Northland’s history faculty believes that God is the author, sustainer, and end of all human endeavors. This degree will ground students in the Word of God and will provide them with a thorough understanding of the discipline of history.

Requirements Overview

The student will be acclimated through survey courses in World History and American History. The student will also have a wide variety of studies in specialized courses from the Ancient Near East to Modern America. To maximize the student’s exposure to the entire field of history, he will be encouraged—and in some cases required—to participate in specialized readings courses, study tours, or field studies at any of a number of international destinations developed for the GO Study Abroad program.
