Department of Mathematics

Some students enjoyed and excelled in their high school math courses. If they would like to continue in this field of study, Northland’s Mathematics Education program will thoroughly equip them with the necessary skill set. Northland’s math faculty firmly believes that math is a powerful tool by which the Creator reveals Himself to show the compexity, uniformity, and brilliance of the universe. Whether the student’s goal is to teach on a secondary level or to pursue further education, this program will teach the student how to think critically and to develop essential, problem-solving skills.

Requirements Overview

Northland trains its math teachers using a broad scope of mathematic disciplines, including algebra, transcendental functions, linear algebra, modern geometry, calculus, problem-solving strategies, and statistics. To support students in their conceptualization, example application problems are illustrated in class to link theory to its use in the real world. In addition, computer applications are integrated into classroom learning to allow students to better visualize mathematical concepts.
